As expected, Kathanayakudu is a good treat for all the superstar fans as he is seen on the silver screen for abroad 1 hour totally. His image to pull all the mass and class crowds is well maintained through out the film. Jagapathi babu will ear good reviews for his impeccable acting skills and his expressions.Story
Ashok Kumar (Rajnikanth) who is well known film actor comes to a village known as Sircilla. His entire film crew and cast come to the village along with him and reside in a government guest house for tenure of 1 month
Balakrishna (Jagapathi babu) plays the character of a poor barber in the film. He is downtrodden with poverty and is struggles a lot to earn a living from his profession. His old fashioned goods of an old scissors, creaky wooden chair which are the only goods in his so called saloon replicate his hard earnings for his living.
Meena plays the character of his wife who bears three children from Jagapathi Babu. Balakrishna (Jagapathi) earnings are not even sufficient for his living and so he evades paying the school fees of his children.
But as a dream to be fulfilled, balakrishna desires to own a round revolving chair and a modernized salon which is well equipped with all the modern day equipment. When the actor Ashok Kumar ( Rajini) starts residing in the village , suddenly Balakrishna becomes enlightened in the village. He happens to be a childhood friend of the superstar and the villagers are enlightened by this fact. His respect in the village increases and he worshipped as a god in the village with utmost respect.
But Balakrishna in his hearts is in a dilemma that whether the superstars Ashok Kumar can at least remember him. His family members pester him to meet the film actor and ask foe some financial help. But Balakrishna for his self respect denies this advice.
Meanwhile the total shooting schedule gets completed and Ashok Kumar guest ready to leave the village. Geetha who happens to be the had principle of a school invites him as a chief guest for a program.
Meanwhile Balakrishna’s children also degrade him and embarrass him that he is a fit for nothing human and cannot look after his children.
When Sridevi (Meena) asks her hubby Balakrishna to accompany her to school to get a glimpse of the superstars, he readily aggress .they stand in the penultimate row .
When Ashok Kumar sees his childhood friend he remembers him and then recollects the sacrifice which Balakrishna made to him. He then highlights Balakrishna and his sacrifice and his emotional speech makes everyone including Balakrishna’s Family moved.
Then the two childhood friends go to the small house of Balakrishna and the movie is ended in a surprising but a happy note.Performances
Rajinkanth is the true hero in this movie. His message at the end describes friendship and makes it as a highlight in the movie. Though some usual mannerisms are missing, Rajini’s whole image is seen in the movie in a different but interesting way.
Nayantara plays a glam doll role. Her revealing costumes in few scenes are a looly to mass audience.
Jagapathi has given a decent performance and his acting skills are well exploited by the director.
Meena plays a brief but an important role in this film. But her well designed blouses and saris well starched and ironed doe not make senses that she is playing a role of a poor mans’ wife.
Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya is seen in a scene discussing a scene with the director. Mamta, Kushboo, Sneha, geetha have played their roles well.
The music is decent and the song Superstar features NTR, ANR, Chiranjeevi MGR and all the stalwarts of Indian cinema
On the whole the film is simple and sweet and is worth watching once.
